Three independent shops in my area got bought out in the last 14 months. Same playbook every time: PE firm rolls them up, slaps a new logo on the trucks, raises prices, cuts the spiff structure for techs, jacks up the call volume.
Two of the best techs I know already left. One went to a competitor, one started his own thing.
Where I’m at, what’s left of the “”real”” independent shops feels like an endangered species. Anyone else watching this happen in their market? Or am I just being old and grumpy?
